I would however have liked the guns to pack more of a punch and a few more combat moves would have been a nice addition, but other than that they get everything else spot on when it comes to the gameplay. The gameplay is super addictive and the fast and frantic action really does a great job of creating a fun and adrenaline-fuelled experience. Thankfully it was worth the wait because they have managed to get a lot of the important aspects spot on.

Players gain rank points upon completion which are used to rank up and unlock more difficult sets of missions.

Missions are structured akin to the Monster Hunter series with levels accessed one at a time from a central hub area. Mercenary Kings offers up to four player co-op with online or local split screen play. Players can jump, crouch, roll, shoot in four directions and use a short range frontal melee attack to make their way through 100+ missions with a variety of enemies, bosses, and locations. Mercenary Kings is a side-scrolling run-and-gun platform similar to games like SNK's Metal Slug series.
